MISSION
Outdoor Families Magazine and Community strives to enrich the lives of multi-generational families internationally by providing outdoor and adventure related content meant to inspire a connection to, participation in and stewardship of the natural world.
VISION STATEMENT
Families will spend more time outdoors everyday, learning, playing, preserving, exploring, and sharing our natural resources. Together they will grow to be healthy, active, and caring about each other, our global community, and our Earth. Outdoor Families Magazine will be the resource for and the industry leader in representing outdoor families.
OBJECTIVE
We aim to create the next generation of children that love the outdoors by offering easy-to-replicate exploration ideas through field-tested product reviews, family adventure travel tips, informative guides and family-focused articles.

Working from OFM’s Los Angeles office, Jennifer oversees the overall design, aesthetic and content direction of the magazine. She is also a regular contributor to the magazine, writing about her family’s international adventures and multi-cultural living. In addition to publishing OFM, she publishes MommyHiker.com and enjoys a 20+ year career in the Entertainment Industry in numerous facets of storytelling; acting, producing, screenwriting and photographing.

OFM’s wordsmith, Erin Kirkland lives, works, and plays in Anchorage, Alaska. A freelance journalist, author, and mom of two sons, Erin’s family travel background lends depth to the magazine’s content. From her home office in Alaska, Erin publishes AKontheGO.com, a website dedicated to Alaska family travel and outdoor recreation. Erin is in charge of upholding OFM’s publishing guidelines and standards for every compelling story and personal perspective told on our digital pages.

Melynda Harrison is a writer, naturalist, social media dork, wife, mom, cross-country ski enthusiast, hiker, reader, knitter, jungle gym, napkin, Malamute lover, kid hauler, and head over heels about being outside with her family (or alone!). Her experience writing for high profile publications such as High Country News, Big Sky Journal, and Women’s Adventure, and as a regular contributor to Montana Parent, Outside Bozeman, Great Falls Tribune, and more, gives her a unique voice as OFM’s Contributing Editor. Melynda is currently traveling through Europe with her family for year.

Kate Spiller lives with her husband and two children, Bergen and Georgia, in Seattle, Washington where she is a stay-at-home mom, writer, and blogger at WildTalesof.com. She loves encouraging and inspiring families to explore the outdoors together, whether that’s in their own backyard or across the world! She knows the value of quality gear, and as OFM’s Contributing Gear Editor she looks forward to sharing tools and resources that will make family life a touch easier, a touch wilder, and a touch more adventurous!

Originally from the Bay Area, California, Stephanie Harper now resides in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina with her 4 children and husband. She is a writer and blogger at Raising Kids Wild and loves to run and hike. When she’s not reading for her social justice book club, she is foraging or experimenting with new food to ferment. Contributing as Social Media Manager for OFM aligns with her love of the outdoors and sharing those moments with people from different walks of life.
Susan Smith, Director of Marketing
Susan Smith brings to OFM over 25 years of expertise in all facets of the travel and tourism sector with a special emphasis on the needs of the Destination Management Organization sector. Her expertise in the development of local, regional and state partnerships will extend and maximize OFM’s promotional and destination visibility, including heightening the magazine’s authority and influence in community and stake-holder outreach on a local, regional and state-wide level.
